CCRG's Community Service Scrapbook
CCRG skaters speak on the importance of community engagement:
"A lot of the leagues at that time had sort of this strong public service aspect... The leagues would give back to the community, and I found that a really appealing part of roller derby.” - Poke A. Dot, former President, OG
“We wouldn’t be where we are without this community, so we want to make sure we are giving back.” - Kill Easy, former President
2009 Habitat for Humanity Build
In 2009, the Classic City Rollergirls raised funds for and participated in a Habitat for Humanity build. Thrashley, Knockin' Bootsy and Melony Fisdamenor help carry shingles to Nell Bomb and Stacy (pictured below on the roof).
Hollaback! Athens, 2013
In 2013, the Classic City Rollergirls pose with signs to support Hollaback! Athens, a local organization focused on ending gender-based violence and street harassment.
In 2013, CCRG partnered with the Tyanna Foundation for Breastfest Athens, a local volunteer organization which hosts the annual event to raise money for St. Mary’s Women’s Diagnostic Center in Athens. Breastfest has been an annual Athens event since 1999.
CCRG's silent auction fundraiser for Breastfest 2013 was so successful that the league repeated the fundraiser again in 2014. Once again, league members decorated bras and auctioned them off to fans who bid on the bras during a home bout.
2006 and 2010 Athens Parade of Lights
The Classic City Rollergirls participated in the 2006 and the 2010 Downtown Athens Parade of Lights, the city's annual holiday parade. For the 2006 parade, CCRG constructed a light-up roller skate float and in 2010, members of the league skated dressed up as holiday gifts.
